After the former House speaker claims he “lacks character” for being president, Trump lashes out at Paul Ryan

Donald Trump has referred to House Speaker Paul Ryan as the “most incompetent” speaker in United States history following Ryan’s declaration that he will not support Trump in the upcoming presidential election.
Mr. Ryan, 54, reaffirmed his conviction that Trump is not the best candidate for the Republicans and stated he has no intention of giving him another opportunity to run for president as he prepares to face Joe Biden, Trump’s successor.

It would appear that his justification is straightforward: Trump does not possess the temperament necessary to serve a second term as president of the United States.

As he did in 2020, the former vice presidential nominee stated that he would write in the name of another Republican, although he “has not yet determined who.” Mr. Ryan also stated that Biden and he hold opposing views on policy.

“I place an excessive amount of importance on character,” he stated on Tuesday at the Milken Institute Global Conference. “He simply lacks the kind of character that is required for that job,” he continued.
In March 2019, following a four-year term as House speaker from 2015 to 2019, Mr. Ryan was appointed to the board of directors of the Rupert Murdoch-owned Fox Corporation.

In an early morning outburst on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump retorted with his signature bellicose language and a flourish of capital letters.
“Peter Murdoch ought to remove from the Fox Board of Directors the pitiful RINO [Republican in Name Only] Paul Ryan. “Forever and ever, Ryan will be a loser,” the 77-year-old Republican presidential candidate wrote on Thursday.

“His tenure as Speaker of the House was the weakest and most incompetent in its history.” “Fox will plummet to last place if Paul Ryan is involved in any way,” he further stated.
Mr. Ryan, who was elected to represent the 1st Congressional District of Wisconsin in 1998, has previously criticized Trump’s efforts to reclaim the presidency.

His most recent remarks are made more than a year after he stated in February 2023 that he would not support Trump’s candidacy for the presidency of the United States.
Mr. Ryan told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, “There are too many individuals in the Republican Party who do not support him if he were the nominee, which is why I do not believe he will be the nominee.”
Mr. Ryan speculated that “nominating this individual again would result in election defeat for the Republicans.” In 2022, he attributed his party’s unsuccessful midterm performance, which resulted in a narrow majority for the House, to Trump.
