This place is set at an altitude of 9,914 feet which provides a thrilling summit in just a weekend. It is the highest range in the Garhwal Himalayas where you see a 100-degree view of snow-capped Himalayan ranges which includes Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, Kala Nag, Srikantha, and Gangotri. You also witness Kedarnath peak in the north and Doon valley and snow peaks of Changabang. And that is why it is the most famous trek among trekkers as it provides thrill and excitement. 

There is a big mythology associated with the name Naga tibba as the Nag means snake and tibba means hill or peak in local language. According to the village people there it is said that, This place is the abode of Nag Devta who is a hindu mythological character worshipped by the devotees. And the locals offer their prayers to Nag Devta for the protection of their village. 

The speciality of Nag tibba is that as you climb one side of the mountain and come down from another side you encounter a variety of landscape which takes you through the dense forests, clearings and ridge walk. The trek covers the distance of 2 days and this trek is worth visiting. 

Things Nag Tibba offers:

The view of the sunset from the campsite is spell bounding. It is due to the direction it faces as on the clear day you see the great mountains of lightning up with a shade of fiery orange. And below the mountains you see a bed of clouds floating which is completely mesmerizing to watch for. 

The trek to Bhatwadi village is extremely picturesque. You enter a clearing namely Moriana where there flows the stream one side and on the other side you see a couple of shepherds. Bhatwadi village is enriched by forests and this will make your cameras out for clicking photographs. You will never want to end this trail as it provides such beautiful sights. 

Nag Tibba trekking routes:

This trek can be done from 3 trekking routes-

  1. From Devalsari village which is 13 kms away where you can also stay at a forest guest house in Mussoorie. From that you can trek 3 kms to Naga tibba peak where you go through thick deodar forests. 
  2. From Pantwari village which is 8 kms from Nag tibba. It is the most commonly used route. From Mussoorie, Pantwari village is about 50 kms while 85 kms from Dehradun if you go by road. The route will require a guide because it is a little complex. 
  3. From Aunter through Thatyur which is quite straight and with few slopes. 

Itinerary:

Day 01- Pantwari village to Nag tibba temple

Day 02- Nag tibba temple to Nag tibba top and then returning towards the base camp

Day 03- Trek back to Pantwari village and then return towards Dehradun to your home. 

Best time to trek:

The best time to go for Nag tibba trek would be February to mid-June and mid-September to November. However, during December and January, you may experience snow. In monsoon, you will find lush greenery all around you and when raindrops fall on you the moment is irresistible. Thus you can travel anytime you wish to experience with such a richness this place has. 

Now this trek is not difficult and an easy moderate trail as there are few steep sections. Hence it constitutes a best trek for beginners. 

It is an ideal weekend trek from Delhi and Dekhradun and hence safer as well.
