Baroness Mone admits lying about PPE business and receiving £200m government contracts

Michelle Mone has admitted lying about her connections to Medpro and claims she will benefit from over £200 million in government contracts awarded to the PPE supply firm she recommended to ministers.

The company is under investigation by the NCA, while the Department of Health and Social Care has initiated breach of contract proceedings over a 2020 gown supply deal.

The Tory peer admits in her first major broadcast interview since the scandal emerged that she made an “error” in denying her links to the firm and that she is a beneficiary of her husband’s financial trusts.

“If one day, if, God forbid, my husband passes away before me, then I am a beneficiary, as well as his children and my children, so, yes, of course,” she told the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg programme.

“I was wrong when I told the press that I wasn’t involved.”

The speaker acknowledges their involvement in a project, expressing their gratitude for the usefulness of their keenness.

The woman and her husband denied lying to the media and claimed they were scapegoats for the government’s PPE failures.

A government figure asked Mr. Barrowman in November 2022 if he would pay more money for the NCA investigation to be called off. His lawyers told him not to go to the police, but he did.

Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden expressed surprise at the situation, stating that millions of gowns supplied by a company were never used by health services. The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) is still seeking to recover some of the money, while the couple insists the gowns were supplied in accordance with the contract.
