[Curitiba, November 6, 2026] — Starting at midnight on Sunday, November 8, 2026, motorists traveling through Paraná will encounter higher toll costs at nine specific collection points across the state. The National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) has officially sanctioned these revised tariffs, which apply to a network of 662.1 kilometers of federal and state highways currently managed by the concessionaire EPR Iguaçu S.A.

The price adjustments affect four major road arteries: BR-163, BR-277, PR-182, and PR-280. This regulatory shift impacts a wide range of road users, including daily commuters, long-haul commercial logistics operators, and tourists visiting the south-western regions of the state.

ANTT Mandates First Ordinary Tariff Review for EPR Iguaçu

The implementation of these new rates follows the publication of SUROD Decision No. 1,846, issued on November 3, 2026, and formally publicized on November 6. This action represents the first ordinary review and adjustment of the Basic Toll Tariff under the existing agreement with EPR Iguaçu.

According to regulatory reports, the adjustments are not arbitrary but are based on specific contractual mechanisms. The ANTT oversees the application of these charges to ensure the concessionaire adheres to the legal framework of the agreement. The review process incorporates several economic variables, primarily focusing on inflation and other contractual obligations designed to maintain the infrastructure's operational viability.

Breakdown of Updated Rates for Passenger Vehicles

The new pricing structure is distributed across nine strategic locations. The most significant concentration of changes occurs on BR-277, which hosts six of the nine updated toll plazas. Other adjustments are found on PR-182 in Ampére and PR-280 in Pato Branco.

For Category 1 vehicles—which encompass standard passenger cars, vans, and pickup trucks with two axles and single tires—the costs vary by location. For instance, the toll at Lindoeste on BR-163 has risen from R$18.10 to R$19.10. In the western corridor, the charge at São Miguel do Iguaçu has climbed to R$18.40 from a previous R$17.40.

BR-277 Corridor Faces Extensive Tariff Adjustments

The BR-277 highway serves as a primary transit artery for Paraná, and it is the most heavily impacted by this update. The revised charges span a corridor from Prudentópolis through Candói, Laranjeiras do Sul, Cascavel, and Céu Azul, ending at São Miguel do Iguaçu.

Under the new schedule, Category 1 motorists will pay between R$16.00 (at Cascavel and Céu Azul) and R$18.40 (at São Miguel do Iguaçu). Because these are individual collection points, the total cost of a trip depends entirely on the number of plazas a driver passes through. Industry observers note that this corridor is essential for those traveling toward the Foz do Iguaçu region, making these updates particularly relevant for international tourism and cross-border trade.

Economic Drivers Behind the Price Hikes

The ANTT has detailed the mathematical basis for these increases to ensure transparency. The agency applied an adjustment index of 1.17259, calculated alongside other contractual variables. A primary driver was the Broad National Consumer Price Index (IPCA), which showed a positive variation of 5.76 per cent between the start of the toll collection period and September 2026.

However, the final figures were not a simple percentage increase across the board. The calculation included a negative "Factor C" adjustment of R$0.03403 and adhered to specific rounding rules mandated by the contract. This explains why the price jump differs slightly from one plaza to another.

Electronic Payment Incentives and Frequent User Discounts

To mitigate the impact of the price increases, the ANTT continues to support electronic payment systems. Motorists utilizing eligible electronic toll tags can benefit from the Basic Tariff Discount (DBT), which provides a 5 per cent reduction on qualifying transactions. This discount is processed automatically and is available across all vehicle categories.

Furthermore, the regulator maintains the Frequent User Discount (DUF). This specific program is designed for light vehicle operators who regularly traverse the same toll points. The DUF offers progressive reductions, meaning the more frequently a registered user passes through a specific plaza, the lower the relative cost of the toll becomes.

Why This Matters (Information Gain & Experience)

For the everyday driver or logistics manager, these changes represent more than just a few extra Reais; they highlight the increasing cost of infrastructure maintenance in Brazil's agricultural and tourism hubs.

From a logistical standpoint, the concentration of hikes on BR-277 is the most critical factor. Because this road is the main gateway to the Triple Frontier (Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay), commercial transport operators will see a cumulative increase in overhead for every shipment moving toward the border.

For the traveler, the most immediate takeaway is the necessity of switching to electronic tags. A 5 per cent discount may seem marginal, but when combined with the DUF progressive discounts for frequent trips, it becomes a necessary tool for cost management. Travelers planning routes toward Foz do Iguaçu should now budget for a higher "toll tax" per trip, as the cumulative effect of passing through multiple plazas like Cascavel and São Miguel do Iguaçu will be more pronounced than in previous years.
