Democratic Analyst: Joe Biden’s ‘Greatest Threat’ Is Not Donald Trump

US President Joe Biden walks to board Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, on March 29, 2024. On April 3, 2024, a Democratic analyst said that Biden's "greatest threat" is not Donald Trump in the 2024 election.

Donald Trump is not the “greatest threat” to President Joe Biden in the 2024 election, per a Democratic analyst.
“I do not believe Donald Trump poses the greatest threat to Joe Biden,” said CNN Newsroom political analyst and former South Carolina state representative Bakari Sellers. “These voters aren’t going to jump over Joe Biden to vote for Donald Trump because of all of the things we know to be true about Donald Trump.”
According to sellers, a greater threat to Biden in November would be if some voters abstained from casting ballots.

“The issue with Joe Biden is that he must be capable of mobilizing a significant portion of these electors who are feeling somewhat disheartened and are seeking an end to the fighting in Gaza. “There are several factors that inspire young voters, including ensuring that African American voters comprehend your message and its future implications,” Sellers further elaborated. For comment, Newsweek contacted Biden’s campaign via email.

The setting:
Biden had previously secured the Democratic nomination for the 2024 presidential election; however, he encountered resistance from voters in certain state primaries due to his position on the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Biden encountered challenges in Michigan, a swing state he won by a razor-thin margin in 2020, last month. The state’s sizable Muslim population is now expressing growing discontent with his administration’s support for Israel in its conflict with Hamas in Gaza.
In protest, more than one hundred thousand Michigan primary voters submitted ballots for “uncommitted.”
Based on poll results comparing Biden to the presumed Republican Party nominee, former President Trump, the election appears to be fiercely contested.

Morning Consult’s Cameron Easley published an amended 2024 presidential monitoring poll on X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday.
“With a +2 advantage over Trump, Biden maintains his lead,” Easley wrote in the post. “Most significantly, he shares a tie with Trump in the eyes of independents.” Since late November, this is the first occasion Trump has failed to lead among these crucial voters.

Associate professor of public policy at City University of New York and Trump and Biden rival Heath Brown, he told Newsweek earlier on Wednesday, that the race is narrowing.
“These latest polls confirm that this campaign is very close and will likely remain that way for the foreseeable future,” Brown asserted.
A poll conducted by NPR/PBS/Marist last month found Biden to be two percentage points ahead of the former president. Fifty percent of respondents supported Biden in the upcoming election, while forty-eight percent backed Trump, according to the survey.

Sellers predicted on CNN that the conflict in Gaza would continue to be a major concern in the upcoming election. In recent weeks, Biden’s relationship with Israel has remained contentious, and many pro-Palestine voters have continued to urge him to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.
