Elon Musk reveals a startling truth regarding Tesla’s most formidable competitors: “They will virtually destroy the majority of other businesses”

But Musk isn't sweating the competition.

During a recent earnings call, Elon Musk astonished some by praising his competitors in the electric vehicle industry. His competitors outside the United States are electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers based in China.
“In general, our observation is that Chinese automobile manufacturers are the most competitive automobile manufacturers in the world.” Musk stated, “Therefore, I believe they will achieve considerable success beyond China, contingent on the nature of the tariffs or trade barriers that are implemented.” “In all honesty, I believe that in the absence of trade barriers, they will effectively dismantle the majority of other businesses worldwide. Thus, they are tremendously excellent.”
Although Tesla performed satisfactorily in China, its Model Y ranked fifth in sales of completely electric vehicles in October 2023. The top four positions were occupied by Chinese firms, with BYD securing the top three positions.

Tesla has been the leading global electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer and market leader in terms of sales for many years. However, that may soon change. A Counterpoint market research report revealed that in the third quarter of 2023, BYD surpassed Tesla in global sales with 17%, closing the disparity that had existed for years and closing in on the competition. Q4 saw BYD surpass Tesla in terms of worldwide shipments. Tesla, on the other hand, surpassed BYD in annual sales.
Musk’s optimism regarding the future of electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing in China appears to be warranted, given that the Chinese government appears to be fully invested in the industry. China has achieved its initial objective of having new energy vehicles comprise at least 20% of newly sold automobiles, as reported by CNN Business. This criterion encompasses battery electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. The Chinese government aims to establish NEVs as the prevailing mode of automobile transportation by the year 2035.
Musk’s destiny at Tesla is being evaluated.
The fact that China emits significantly more heat-trapping air pollution into the Earth’s atmosphere each year than the United States, the second-worst annual polluter, contributes less than half of what China does annually, according to data from the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions. This is excellent news.
However, Musk is unconcerned about the competition. He even expressed a willingness to assist additional manufacturers.
“Obviously, we are delighted to grant access to our Supercharger Network to any electric vehicle manufacturer,” Musk stated. “We are also willing to grant licenses for fully autonomous driving, potentially other technologies, and anything else that could aid in the advancement of the sustainable energy revolution.”
