Iberia has received the "Best Airline Staff Service in Europe" accolade at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2026. The award, presented at The Langham Hotel in London, recognizes the operational performance of both cabin crew and ground staff.

The ranking is based on a global satisfaction survey conducted between September 2025 and August 2026. The data set included 24.8 million valid customer responses, making it one of the largest independent audits of aviation service quality.

Service & Infrastructure Upgrades As part of its "Flight Plan 2030" strategy, Iberia is implementing several hardware and facility updates to match its service ratings:

  • Long-Haul Fleet: 100 per cent of long-haul aircraft cabins are scheduled for interior upgrades.
  • Short/Medium-Haul: Installation of XL overhead bins to increase hand luggage capacity.
  • Ground Experience: Opening of the Emerald Lounge Sorolla at Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (Terminal 4) for Platino, Platino Prime, Infinita, Infinita Prime, and Singular customers.

Passenger Rights & Advisory While staff service ratings are high, passengers operating through Iberia’s hubs should remain aware of their statutory rights during disruptions. For the affected passenger, this means:

  • EU261/2004 Compliance: Since Iberia is an EU-based carrier, passengers are entitled to fixed compensation for flight cancellations or delays over three hours, unless "extraordinary circumstances" are proven.
  • Duty of Care: Regardless of the cause of delay, passengers are entitled to meals, refreshments, and hotel accommodation if an overnight stay is required.
  • Rebooking Rights: Our analysis of EU policy suggests passengers have the right to choose between a full refund or re-routing to their final destination at the earliest opportunity.

Industry Analyst View The correlation between staff service awards and the "Flight Plan 2030" suggests Iberia is attempting to pivot from a legacy carrier model to a premium-experience provider. By combining "soft" service wins with "hard" product upgrades—specifically the 100% long-haul cabin refresh—Iberia is positioning itself to compete more aggressively with Gulf carriers on transatlantic routes. The focus on digitalization and premium lounge expansion at Madrid-Barajas indicates a strategic shift toward high-yield passenger segments.
