Thanks to the brilliant innings of captain Lokesh Rahul (91 not out), the Punjab Kings set a target of 180 runs to win in front of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 26th match of the 14th season of the IPL, released at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday. Punjab scored 179 runs for five wickets in 20 overs. For him, the most captain Rahul hit an unbeaten 91 runs in 57 balls with 7 fours and 5 sixes.
Batting first after losing the toss, Punjab did not start well and the team lost the wicket of Prabhasimran Singh (7), playing his first match on the score of 19 runs. After this, Rahul and Chris Gayle (46) strengthened the team by sharing 80 runs off 45 balls for the second wicket. Gayle hit six fours and two sixes off 24 balls. After Gayle was dismissed, the middle order proved to be a complete failure and Nicholas Pooran (0), Deepak Hooda (5) and Shah Rukh Khan (0) went out cheaply.
Captain Rahul, however, held one end and shared a 61-run 32-ball partnership for the sixth wicket with Harpreet Brar (25 not out), playing his first match this season, to give the team a strong score. The team scored 60 runs in the last five overs and 22 runs in the last over. Rahul hit seven fours and five sixes off 57 balls, while Brar hit one four and two off 17 balls. Kyle Jameson took two wickets while bowling brilliantly towards Bangalore. Apart from them, Daniel Samms, Yuzvendra Chahal and Shahbaz Ahmed took one wicket each.
