There is a shortage of medical oxygen in different parts of the country.
The Union Health Ministry said on Friday that states have also been asked to audit the consumption of oxygen in private hospitals. The central government is accelerating efforts to increase supply in the midst of the Kovid-19 crisis. Giving information about the condition of corona epidemic in the country, the ministry has said that the second wave of corona is five times compared to the first wave in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, 4.5 times in Chhattisgarh and 3.3 times in Delhi.
Goa has a 10.9 percent growth rate in the growing cases of coronavirus, while Odisha has 8.1 percent. In the last four weeks, Uttar Pradesh and Kerala have become the most affected states in terms of new cases coming daily. The government ordered 127,000 oxygen cylinders
Citing examples from countries such as the US and Brazil, the Health Ministry said measures such as containment, appropriate behavior for Kovid and vaccination could help curb the situation. On the lack of medical oxygen in the country, the ministry said that industrial use of oxygen has been stopped from April 22, except for a few industries. This will increase the availability of at least 1,000 metric tons of additional oxygen.
The ministry listed other measures to ensure adequate oxygen supply, such as placing orders for 127,000 oxygen cylinders on April 21, with delivery expected by the end of April. Among them are 54,000 jumbo cylinders and 73,000 normal cylinders. Railways is working on roll on-roll off (RORO) service for long distance transportation of oxygen tankers. At the same time, an additional 500 PSA plants to be set up by the Development Research and Defense Organization (DRDO) were approved.
The government had purchased 1,02,400 oxygen cylinders in April-May last year.
Addressing a press conference, Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that the government had identified oxygen beds as the main clinical aid since the outbreak of the epidemic. He said that the government had purchased 1,02,400 oxygen cylinders at the national level only in April-May 2020 and they were distributed among the states. Aggarwal also said that the states have been advised to ensure rational use of oxygen and not to give oxygen unnecessarily to patients. Also keep an eye on those private health care centers which are using oxygen cylinders to provide Kovid care packages to the homes.
