Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 6 wickets in the 2021 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in a very special match for captain MS Dhoni (MS Dhoni). For Dhoni, who played the 200th match for Chennai, this win will not be less than a gift. The Punjab team, who got batting earlier in the match, could not overcome the tremors of Deepak Chahar (13/4) and reached 106 for 8 wickets. In response, the Super Kings achieved the target of 107 runs at the loss of 4 wickets in 15.4 overs.
Rituraj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis gave Chennai a good start to chase down easy goals. Both started off slow, but du Plessis opened his hands and the team scored 24 runs in 5 overs. However, on the same score, Arshdeep Singh got Rituraj Gaikwad (5) caught out by Deepak Hooda.
After this, Faf du Plessis teamed up with Moin Ali (46) to take the team to 90 runs. The team was so close to winning that Ali was caught by Murugan Ashwin at the hands of Shah Rukh Khan. Moeen hit 7 fours and a six in 31 balls. Here Mohammed Shami bowled Suresh Raina (8) and Ambati Rayudu (0) in two consecutive balls in the 15th match, but it did not make any difference to the match result. Mohammad Shami took two wickets from Punjab. This is the Super Kings’ first win in two matches. This was Dhoni’s 200th match for CSK.
Thrill of punjab’s innings
Earlier, thanks to a superb opening spell of Deepak Chahar (13/4), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) held Punjab Kings (PBKS) to a score of 106 for 8 wickets. Tamil Nadu’s ‘power hitter’ M Shah Rukh Khan was the only Punjab batsman to stand at the crease, scoring 47 off 36 balls which included four fours and two sixes. But he was dismissed by the ball of Sam Karan in the last over.
Deepak Chahar threw one of his four over maiden and took four wickets for 13 runs. Sam Karan, Moin Ali and Dwayne Bravo got one wicket each. The Chennai Super Kings bowlers took four wickets for 26 runs from the Punjab Kings in the powerplay, justifying skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s decision to bowl first.
Deepak Chahar’s deadly bowling
Chahar bowled Mayank Agarwal (zero) in the first over and sent it to the pavilion. Even after that, he kept the pressure and allowed only two fours in his four over spell. Punjab captain KL Rahul (05) in the form was run out by a brilliant throw from Ravindra Jadeja standing on short cover who was trying to steal a run. After this, Jadeja dived in the fifth over and caught a great catch.
Gayle and Puran also become Chahar’s victims
Chris Gayle’s 10-run innings was finished by Chahar, his second wicket. Nicholas Pooran was dismissed for a second time, he was caught by Chahar’s short ball into the hands of Shardul Thakur at long leg. Deepak Hooda (10) was dismissed in the seventh over with an easy catch to Faf du Plessis and it was Chahar’s fourth wicket. Now the team’s score is 26 for five wickets.
Shah Rukh Khan and Jay Richardson (15 runs, 22 balls, two fours) added 31 runs for the sixth wicket. Murugan Ashwin (06) then added 30 runs along with Shah Rukh Khan to help Punjab reach this score.
