Super Bowl LVI will take place on February 13, at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Football fans are already looking ahead to it and trying to work out which teams are most likely to win this prestigious event, so who are the favorites right now?

Table of Contents

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The winners of Super Bowl LV are currently considered to be the favorites to win it this year too. In 2020, they swept aside the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9 to become only the second team to be undefeated having played in more than 1 Super Bowl.

This season started off well for the Buccaneers, and they have maintained their position as Super Bowl favorites during most of the season to date. The scandal with receiver Antonio Brown and his fake COVID vaccination card could push them off track and there is no doubt that the decision the team’s bosses make over this matter will have a big effect on their chances of a second successive Super Bowl.

The Kansas City Chiefs

Last year’s losing finalists are high on many people’s list for this Super Bowl, as they aim to make up for the disappointment they suffered at the hands of the Buccaneers. They started this season as Super Bowl favorites but started to struggle once the action got underway.

Having said that, the Chiefs have moved up a gear or two in recent weeks, with Patrick Mahomes slowly starting to improve according to analysts. However, it is their much-improved defense that has been credited with bringing about their recent winning streak and that may need to carry them all the way to the season finale in Inglewood if Mahomes doesn’t manage to get back his previous high standards soon.

The Green Bay Packers

The Packers already have 4 Super Bowls to their name with the last one coming in 2010, so another win is definitely overdue. They won the NFC North Division in each of the last couple of years but what are their chances of glory early in 2022? The upcoming game against historic rivals the Chicago Bears will go a long way towards telling us if the Packers are going to claim the title again this season.

They have got an impressive record against the Bears lately, winning the last 5 in a row, with 10 victories in the last 11 meetings between them. The fact that QB Aaron Rodgers looks like being able to rest his fractured pinkie toe rather than going in for surgery is certainly a bonus that helps the chances of them finishing the season undefeated.

The Arizona Cardinals

No major American team has had to ensure a trophy drought as severe as the Cardinals, whose fans need to go all the way back to 1947 to find their last championship win.

Can they repeat the form that got them to Super Bowl XLIII but go one better and actually win the trophy this time? It’s a big ask but at the time of writing they are favorites to be the NFC’s top seeds thanks to a 10-2 record.

Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury has been credited with turning this franchise around. In his 3rd season with Arizona after leaving college football, he has built an impressive offensive machine. Kingsbury has been linked with the offer of a new, extended contract before other teams start looking at him seriously.

The form of quarterback Kyler Murray is another reason why a lot of people are putting money on the Cardinals this year.

Of course, there are just 4 of the top teams, and it wouldn’t be a major surprise if one of their rivals hit form at the right time to overtake them on the march to the Super Bowl.
