The Toyota Highlander is one of Toyota’s strongest offerings in North America. The mid-sized crossover has been successful over the years for its practicality and cost-effectiveness. This is why it is in its 4th generation.

The Highlander has also received acclaim due to its reliability. Using genuine parts for it can enhance its life. The following is a brief review of the new Highlander model for the upcoming year:

The All-New 2022 Toyota Highlander

The 2022 Highlander was revealed in May this year. Tech-wise, there haven’t been many changes to it. We do get a new hybrid version of it though, with plenty of exterior changes. It’s called the Highlander Bronze Edition.

The following is a brief review of the all-new Highlander’s features:

Powertrain and Fuel Economy

The Highlander only comes with one engine. It is a 3.5-litre V6 engine that produces 295 horsepower and 263lb-ft. This power is sent to the front or all of the wheels depending on your variant via an 8-speed auto.

For the hybrid version, you get a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder. This combines with two motors to produce up to 243 horsepower. The drivetrain options are the same but you get an eCVT gearbox instead. This is a downgrade from the automatic.

The Highlander isn’t exactly fast when you look at its 7-second 0-60mph time. But it doesn’t pretend to be either. Fuel-wise, you get around 29mpg for the standard version. Meanwhile, the hybrid will get you around 35mpg.

Interior and Technology

The interior doesn’t give you a lot to complain about. The 7-seater Highlander is generously roomy and the materials used to make it aren’t half bad. The Highlander is beaten by some of its rivals in terms of cargo space though.

Should you get a pricier trim option, the Highlander can get pretty upscale as well. For the new Highlander Bronze Edition, there are bronze accents and some more unique upholstery patterns.

The infotainment screen is at least 8 inches in length and you can add about four more of them by moving up the variants. You can also get heated and powered seats. Also available is the sunroof and wireless charging.

There are several important safety systems that are included as standard. You’ll get automated emergency braking combined with assists for blind spots and lane changing. You can find more systems on Toyota’s website.

Exterior and Driving

The Highlander has a handsome exterior. It has been styled well and the Bronze Edition takes it up a notch with its golden rims and accents. The rim size varies from 18 to 20 inches.

As far as the driving is concerned, the Highlander isn’t considered a top choice. It isn’t the quickest and it definitely isn’t the sharpest. It’s made for taking your family out on trips so the ride is definitely comfortable though.

Price and Warranty

This is where this SUV tends to shine. The Highlander is priced from around $45k and you get a lot of car for this money. Even moving to the top of the range will barely take you over $50,000. It is reasonably priced.

The warranty for this is Toyota’s standard one. The vehicle is covered for 3 years of 36k miles, whichever’s achieved first. Its powertrain is covered for 5 years or 60k miles. But what if you get the hybrid Highlander?

In that case, your batteries get covered for an extra 8 years/100,000 miles. But no matter which model you pick, your Highlander will receive free maintenance for two years.

What do we think of the 2022 Highlander?

There’s no doubt that the 2022 Highlander hasn’t changed much. The Bronze edition doesn’t add much to it either. The tech and the stylings on the standard car are pretty much the same as last year as well.

The handling and performance are primitive and the car does get overshadowed by its peers here. The acceleration isn’t top tier either. The same applies to the cargo capacity as well.

However, the Highlander does an excellent job of being a family crossover SUV. It is quite well priced and the safety features are plenty. The quality is great and the higher trims can make it plusher. The fuel economy’s good too.

Overall, this is a recommended vehicle because it didn’t need many changes. It is an ideal vehicle if you’re looking for something long-term. Just be sure to maintain it with genuine Toyota parts found here: https://sts-global.com/toyota-parts
